PARKING & TRANSPORTATION

Work on the Terminal Area and Parking Improvement program is nearing completion at Gerald R. Ford International Airport.

The Ramp Up! signage has been designed to help you wayfind when you arrive on the airport campus. Look for the red directional and advisory signs on airport roadways for project-related information and instructions.

A temporary traffic shift is currently planned for October 2-4, 2009.  Terminal curb front traffic will be shifted to the newly completed commercial lane (located adjacent to the terminal lane) to allow surface finishing and striping work to be completed.  Passenger drop-off and pick-up activities will continue to take place under the roadway canopy to provide protection from the elements.  Upon completion of this work, commercial vehicle traffic (shuttles, buses, limousines, etc.) will continue using the commercial lane, while private vehicles will return to using the terminal curb front lane.

The temporary short-term, long-term, Express Shuttle and handicap parking lots remain in their current locations. Valet parking is available at the east end of the terminal curb front.

Travelers are encouraged to allow additional arrival time to wayfind around the ongoing construction.

Parking instructions are as follows:

Short-term parking
  • Limited-space, short-term parking is located at the east end of the terminal (look for signs)
  • Overnight parking is prohibited in the short-term lot
  • Hourly parking is available in all long-term lots, including the Express Shuttle lot

Long-term parking

  • North Lot
  • Express Shuttle Lot located on the north side of John J. Oostema Blvd. (one block east of Patterson Avenue)
  • Shuttle service is required to and from all long-term lots

Valet parking

  • The Valet parking stand is located at the far east end of the passenger terminal curb front.

Handicap parking

A portion of every lot is devoted to handicap parking.

Short-term visitors are also encouraged to consider alternative options, such as:

  • Curbside passenger drop-off and pick-up
  • Cell phone parking lot -- a limited-space, free parking area for those waiting to pick up arriving passengers

Important considerations for travelers:

  • All visitors parking in a long-term lot are required to take a shuttle to and from the terminal for safety reasons
  • Travelers are strongly encouraged to arrive at the airport a full 90 minutes prior to scheduled departure in order to allow sufficient time to park, ride a shuttle and arrive at the terminal

Visit the Ramp Up! page for more information about the parking improvement program and parking alternatives.
