Steal My Itinerary: Phoenix Edition

Steal My Itinerary: Phoenix Edition

Day 1: Arrival

Your adventure begins with a nonstop flight to PHX or AZA. Both airports are close to Phoenix proper, so getting to where you're staying is pretty simple. Get settled into your lodging, then head out for a bite. Check out Dahlia Tapas Tequila and Wine for a variety that should please most palates.

Day 2: Adventure

If you’re up for being an early riser, head out to the Wave Cave trail just outside of Phoenix. If you have a permit, you can park at the Carney Springs Trailhead or opt for free parking at the Lost Goldmine East Trailhead. Be aware that this hike is not for beginners; it is rated moderate to hard and includes traversing a rocky terrain.

You’ll probably be hungry, even if you brought trail snacks. If you’re back in the downtown Phoenix area, the Phoenix City Grille is a local favorite with great food, wonderful libations, and outstanding service.

Once you’ve seen the morning sun over Wind Cave, you have to check out the sunset at the Desert Botanical Gardens. This is a breathtaking time of day to see the sights, but leave enough time for pictures as the low light at dusk leaves only silhouettes.

Day 3: Stroll and Chill

Start your day by going wild at the zoo! The Phoenix Zoo has been around for decades and cares for many threatened and endangered animals. Stroll through the exhibits and find your new favorite cuddly or ferocious animals.

Next, downshift your mood and experience serenity at the Japanese Friendship Garden. The Phoenix New Times named it the “Best Oasis in the Desert.” This tranquil garden is the quietest place in Phoenix.

What’s the perfect way to transition from a Japanese garden to dinner? Sushi, of course. Harumi Sushi is one of the highest rated, best-reviewed sushi restaurants in downtown Phoenix, and it brings culinary artistry to every plate.

Day 4: Go Big Before You Go Home

If you’ve seen panoramic pictures of Phoenix, you’ve seen Camelback Mountain rising above the metro area. Before you leave, visit this majestic mountain to see the city from a unique perspective. This unique structure offers stunning views of the city and the surrounding desert, but be sure to bring extra water.

On your last night in Phoenix, you can cross off a bucket list item and get some Instagram-worthy pics by taking a ride in a Rainbow Ryders Hot Air Balloon. If you think Phoenix is beautiful from Camelback Mountain, you should see it from even higher. Make a truly unique memory and elevate your vacation to epic status.

The return trip home will need a good breakfast or brunch before heading to the airport. Be sure to stop by the Snooze Eatery on your way. They flip the script on typical breakfast dishes, injecting local flavors and creating true morning masterpieces.
