Ford Airport to Host Mobile Pantry for Federal Employees

Ford Airport to Host Mobile Pantry for Federal Employees

Grand Rapids, Mich. – The Gerald R. Ford International Airport Authority (GFIAA) is sponsoring a mobile food pantry on Thursday, Jan. 24 to support federal colleagues who are working without pay during the government shutdown.

Feeding America West Michigan will be on site at 11:30 a.m. to provide fresh food for the federal workers employed by the Transportation Security Administration, Federal Aviation Administration, U.S. Customs and Border Protection and National Weather Service at the airport. Feeding America will distribute 15,000 pounds of produce, pantry staples and other food items for up to 300 families.

“We appreciate all federal employees who continue to work while not being paid to keep passengers safe and airports across the country running smoothly,” said GFIAA Interim President & CEO Brian Picardat. “All of the tenants have been pitching in to help feed our federal colleagues while they are at the airport. Providing this mobile pantry from Feeding America will help keep food on the table at home.”

Thursday’s mobile food pantry is the latest in initiatives that GFIAA and airport tenants have undertaken to support their federal colleagues.

GFIAA and airport tenants have been providing meals to the federal employees including donuts, pastries, coffee, sandwiches, pizza, and other snacks during working hours. The groups have worked together to coordinate a schedule for the meals.
