Plan Ahead for Spring Break Travel and… Passenger Appreciation Days!

Due to additional passenger volume associated with spring break travel, parking and terminal facilities at Gerald R. Ford International Airport will be busier than normal, particularly from Thursday, March 28, through Sunday, March 31. Long lines are expected at ticket counters, security checkpoints, and gate service counters. As such, passengers should arrive at the airport at least 90 minutes prior to departure time. Passengers who need to check in at the ticket counter and/or check baggage should plan to arrive two hours prior.

Travelers also want to remember the construction activities on 28th Street SE. Portions of the roadway, from Breton Road on the west to I-96 on the east, may be reduced to one lane each direction resulting in significantly slower travel. When approaching the airport on I-96, we recommend exit #44 for 36th Street. Take 36th St. west one mile to Patterson Ave. and Patterson Ave. south to the airport entrance at 44th Street.

Remember to Fly Smart. In order to expedite the security screening process, passengers should carefully consider the contents of their checked luggage and carryon bags, as well as those items they may be carrying on their person, to ensure no prohibited items or substances are being transported. Be mindful that “over-packed” bags typically slow down security screening and increase wait times for everyone. Passengers may obtain a list of prohibited items, as well as general helpful travel hints, by visiting the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) website at www.tsa.gov. Also, if you or anyone you are traveling with has any special needs, notify your airline right away. Travelers with disabilities or medical conditions may wish to call TSA Cares toll free at 855-787-2227 prior to traveling with any questions.

We say “Thank you!” as you Fly Ford. Passengers traveling through Gerald R. Ford International on their way to spring break destinations will once again be treated to Passenger Appreciation Days, compliments of the Gerald R. Ford International Airport Board. This bon-voyage celebration will take place Thursday, March 28, through Saturday, March 30, from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm, in the Airport’s Grand Hall and will feature free refreshments, giveaways, prize drawings, contests, and more!
